Supermarket shopping for fishing bait and a tench session the following morning on a lake
The tackle shop isn’t the only place you can buy bait, in fact the supermarket is a positive treasure trove, as far as cheap, cheerful and productive items are concerned.
At the start of the video, I’m on my weekly grocery shop with my wife, and a couple of items are added to the trolley which then ended up in my bait freezer.
Both are from the Savers range, so not expensive.
It was the latter of the items, sweetcorn, which accompanied me on my next angling trip.
I’m currently enjoying the tinca challenge on the lake, and that’s where I was the following morning, as I got my own day underway with a fishing session.
Presenting a grain of corn over sweetcorn and brown crumb, I had lots of small roach taking an interest.
However, I had to wait 3.5 hours before I hooked, played and netted what I was after.
Not a massive tench but, considering how slow the fishing is this year for the species, definitely a result.
To highlight the point, again I was the only tinca angler on the bank.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and a bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce bomb. Size 12 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Two great white egrets in flight high over the lake. Swifts c.10 over the lake all through the session. Pair of coots with four young. Mallard still on the nesting site, twelve feet up the tree. Song thrush in flight, another singing. Female sparrowhawk circling.
