A brace of fish from ‘the tench lake’, Nigel Farage, gardening and the Jehovah’s Witnesses
What I have been calling ‘the tench lake’, hasn’t been as productive this season as in previous years. That has been noticeable by the sharp reduction in the number of anglers targeting the species.
However, after my visit the other day – where I was just on the right side of the line – I decided to return.
The lack of bubbles – where the lake resembles a jacuzzi at feeding times – continues to remain a mystery, but, once again, I managed to net a tench.
Then, right at the end, I doubled my tally with a second fish.
Not quite the trio I almost had but I would have settled for a brace before I started.
I fished at 25 yards over brown crumb and sweetcorn, with a grain of corn on the hook.
Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and a bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce bomb. Size 12 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Coot with four very small young, reduced to three while I was there, courtesy of a pike attack. Two swifts early in the session, a single bird later, with c.10 over the lake by the time I left. Two swallows. Female sparrowhawk. On the car park I noticed a female mallard sitting on a nest twelve feet or so up a tree in a hole.
Back home, I had some breakfast and switched GB News on.
They went to the English Channel, where they were reporting on the well-documented illegal immigration that continues unabated.
Filming on a boat, you could see a rod behind the presenter, working a lure in the sea.
They panned round and it was Nigel Farage!
I then went in the garden, cleaned the drive and the path at the front and then cleaned the interior of the car.
It didn’t take long and that’s because I keep on top of things, so a quick scan of the drive, for example, and it was back to being totally weed-free again.
I also had an encounter with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who were inviting people to a meeting.
They aren’t just another denomination, in the way that Anglicans, Baptists, Brethren, Methodists etc are.
Outside the perimeters of what you could call mainstream Christianity, their beliefs put them in the cult category.
An interesting day – and all that before 11.00 a.m.
