🎣 A roach session to start the day and a big encouragement from the garden

📹 A roach session to start the day

Although it’s going to be very cold, with talk of snow next week, for now it’s just cold and dry.

Like life, when it comes to angling plans don’t worry about the future, just make the most of the present.

Continuing with my pursuit of roach – which is an ideal winter species – I fished a pool for an hour or so at first light.

With six feet of water just off the rod top, although I did use a plummet, I didn’t need to adjust the float from my previous session on the Montgomery Canal.

The one change I did make though was to increase the hook size, as I fished with a grain of sweetcorn over loose corn.

Like most venues at the moment, it wasn’t exactly hectic, but I still caught so it’s always good to be on the right side of the line.

Once home, I noticed that the first snowdrops have appeared in the garden.

It’s always a big encouragement, that no matter how harsh the conditions are at that moment in time, spring is never far away.

All being well, as far as the weather is concerned, I’ll be tench fishing in less than two months.

Now that is what you call a big encouragement, isn’t it?
