Blogging Life’s Journey: December 2025

🎣 A Boxing Day fishing session, before going to Cradley Heath and Burslem

It was a very cold start to the day, so much so that I was scraping ice from the car windshield before I could leave the drive. With limited time, I decided to fish a local pond, and I was on the bank as darkness began to give way to light.

With water about a metre deep, I fished just over one-rod length from the bank, towards overhanging and trailing branches. Bait was a single maggot on a Drennan Super Specialist size 18 hook, the line was 4 lb Maxima Chameleon and the float a Drennan crystal waggler 0.8g.

I trickled a few maggots in the swim in accordance with the bites, which weren’t many. Two to be precise. It was very hard going and I blanked. I did see a kingfisher in flight across the pond though, as well as a calling raven that passed through.

The reason for the short session was because, after a quiet Christmas Day with just my wife and me, our daughters and grandchildren came to stay for Boxing Day onwards. Hence, why I was visiting Cradley Heath and Burslem in the video. Dad taxi, as they say.
