My final angling session of the year means that I have completed my piscatorial mission for 2025, which was to go fishing every day. It’s been an absolute pleasure and not once have I had to motivate myself to go either.

The final outing was on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal, where I was joined by Ian Clarke. It was an incredibly cold start to the day, with a sub-zero temperature reading to contend with. While we were there, a thin layer of ice began to creep across the canal.

Ian fished with a single maggot and caught a small roach early on, which proved to be the only fish between us, albeit in just a couple of hours. I went for a bait on a treble hook, hoping to bank a pike. Unfortunately, my two floats were motionless.

We had a good time though at the water’s edge and you can follow the session via the video. I knew Ian was up to something and, was proved right when, right at the end, he made a presentation. That’s also captured in the video.

For my final words of the year, I want to thank everyone who has engaged with my blog during 2025. The views, comments and shares have all been appreciated very much indeed. Whatever the year has been to you, I pray that 2026 will be one of blessing and peace.
