⚽️ Out of the blue, opportunity knocks
Just two days ago, I wrote in my blog the following: ‘That was then. This is now. And, which is really exciting, is that there are more seasons to come. You never know what’s around life’s corner. One text message, one email or one telephone call can change your life.’
Today, I had a WhatsApp message informing me of an opportunity for a chaplain position at a football club. Although it’s a brilliant opening, back to my blog, yesterday I wrote the following:
‘Since I retired, which is almost one year now, I haven’t been to watch a single live game of football. I might in the future, I don’t know, but for now I’m not really interested.’
I’m not actively looking to work in the beautiful game (which was the gist of my reply to the message) but, if something came along that really grabbed me, I would definitely be willing to consider the proposition. I think it would be more media than direct chaplaincy that would maybe turn my head though.
Actually, the former would certainly open up plenty of doors anyway concerning the latter. For now though, it’s as you were, and I’m still very much a firm believer that one communication received, can herald the start of a new season.
Not that I’m actively seeking anything, just that it’s important to be open-minded and think flexibly. I’m also a big believer in life’s seasons and I know for sure that, even though I’m retired, God hasn’t finished with me yet.
