🎣 A quality roach from an overgrown pond and childhood fishing memories
I find that there’s something special about fishing small venues. Whether they be brooks or ponds, I love the intimacy. Plus, they take me back to my own childhood. As far as that’s concerned, there’s plenty in the video, as I talked while I fished.
The fishing itself, on this occasion, was on a pond. It’s not managed, it’s wild and it’s overgrown. However, I do genuinely love that type of venue, even if it’s uncomfortable as far as angling is concerned.
Where I fished from, you couldn’t even get a chair in place if you wanted to. The access is so steep and uneven, that you’d need to do some spade and clearing work in advance, to make it comfortable. However, I’m not going to do that, of course, plus I find that there’s something attractive about a ‘wild’ venue.
As always, you can follow the session via the video and, although I pitched perch as the target, I didn’t catch one. However, the roach were very obliging and, especially from an unmanaged pond, I wasn’t exactly unhappy to bank a few silvers.
However, I most definitely kept the best till last. As you can see in the video, what a fantastic fish it was. You’d be happy with that from anywhere, never mind a small pond. I didn’t catch any that big when I was a child. If I had, I wouldn’t have gone to sleep for a week.
