Before Scotland, a canal angling session
Before my final football-related visit of the season north of the English border, I went fishing.
Up nice and early to get a short session in before I set off for Falkirk, I headed first of all for the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal.
Fishing two white maggots over brown crumb and loose maggots in the boat channel, it was slow.
I did have a few roach sucking the bait, and no doubt could have had a few of those on the bank if I had fined down, but I was happy to think ‘big’.
As it was, I ended up just on the right side of the line.
As long as your bait’s in the water, at least I wasn’t a blanker and all that.
There’s more in the video below.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.
Nature notes: Two grey wagtails on the towpath feeding. Female goosander landed on the canal, saw me and immediately flew away. Female mallard on nest. I’ve seen the site used before but mink are common in the area and it’s never got to the hatching stage.
Fantastic Perch Stewart
I was thrilled, and although not on a conventional perch bait, nevertheless they all count.
