Tough going on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal but on the right side of the line

The spot where I fished and perch caught

Although I continued my run of visits to the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal, this time I headed for another stretch, in pursuit of perch.

I have fished it before but the actual spot was new.

Swim location is important anyway but certainly at this time of the year it becomes even more so.

With overhanging trees all along the far bank, no particular spot stood out, so it was a case of going for one that was as good as any.

My waggler rod was made up from the last session but I still used a plummet to work out the exact depths of the swim.

The boat channel, where I fished, was several inches deeper than the one from my previous sessions.

A slight adjustment with the shot and I put a couple of white maggots on the size 14 hook and cast out.

I was fishing over brown crumb and mixed maggots.

It was tough but I did catch in the couple of hours or so that I was there.

Have you been fishing recently?
