Welcome to Betws-y-coed, it mutates
On our way to Anglesey, we have two route options.
The first, which is much quicker, is along the A483 and A55 or the second which takes the A5, is twisty turny but navigates through exceptionally beautiful countryside.
On the way is the village of Betws-y-coed, which has become a regular stop-off for us.
It is in such a picturesque setting, nestled beneath wooded hills, with the River Llugwy flowing through the village on its way to the River Conwy.
I also saw an official sign that said, Croeso i Fetws-y-coed.
It mutates, which is the first time I realised that.
It’s a Welsh language grammar thing.
The most commonly seen example, for non-Welsh speakers, is when you enter the country.
The Welsh word for Wales is Cymru but the sign says Croeso i Gymru because it mutates.
