As long as your bait’s in the water
After travelling back from Ruthin in adverse conditions (I had the wipers on for the whole journey), by the time I got to bed it was 2.00 a.m.
Although I was up at first light, it wasn’t to fish but to wrap up the post-match media.
By the time I had finished, we caught the last hour of the coffee lounge at church and I combined that with a visit to the council tip and the supermarket.
Then I went fishing.
With a brook going in at one end and out the other, the pond I visited had been seriously affected by the heavy rainfall.
The level was up and the water was a horrible colour.
Still, as long as your baits in the water and all that.
Fishing my usual two white maggots on a size 14 hook, I caught a nice (for a small pond) roach first cast and that was it.
However, in the conditions I was just happy to catch.
