August 3
Regular pair of stock doves in the garden again. They arrive together, feed and then depart.
August 4
Seven house sparrows on the patio (2 adults, 5 juveniles), with the young very recently fledged, still being fed by the parents.
August 6
We’ve had a very friendly feral pigeon hanging around the front garden for a few days.
It sits on the wall, eats from the lawn and follows us around when we’re out the front.
August 10
Two carrion crows on neighbour’s roof aerial first thing in the morning.
They come closer early in the day before people stir.
August 14
Male sparrowhawk made a songbird kill from the feeding station.
Bird spotted again later, hiding in the ivy adjacent to the station.
August 22
The long-tailed tits are back. They are absent during the summer then return once breeding season is over, this time it was a family group c.12 on the feeding station.
August 23
A family group of eight magpies in the garden at first thing. All feeding themselves, as the juveniles were almost adult size as well.
August 25
Carrion crows on neighbour’s aerial first thing. It’s a regular early morning spot for a pair.
August 27
Single carrion crow perched on the neighbour’s aerial.
August 30
Arriving home in the early hours, I let my dog in the garden for the final time before going to bed.
He started barking, I went to investigate and came across the first hedgehog of the year, albeit leaving it late.
