Very short, very challenging, very wet, very weedy, very enjoyable

Although time was still tight, my next session was the following morning, which is preferable in terms of time.

It was an exceptionally wet start to the day and on this occasion I fished a pond.

The tackle used was the same though: Greys Prodigy 12’ float rod and a Shimano 3500M reel, spooled with 4lb Maxima Chameleon.

The float was a 0.8g waggler, with shot either side and a size 14 Drennan Super Specialist hook baited with two maggots.

Apart from the very shallow margins, the pond was pretty much covered in lilies.

There are always gaps though and that’s where I positioned the bait.

I was fishing about one rod length from the bank, which meant I could drop the float in accurately.

Casting to such a tight spot would have been impossible with a rod and reel.

The water was only two feet deep and it was very weedy.

I trickled loose maggots in and caught regularly, both perch and roach.

It was only a short session, as once I was home, showered and changed, it was off to Park Hall for the start of the Welsh domestic football season.
