I knew it was going to be a slow session though from the off, as the venue had that feel to it.
It doesn’t take long to assess the situation and with no signs of feeding fish – that’s anything, not just tench – another word came to mind.
Challenge.
It was ninety minutes in when I lifted the rod to recast and I found myself connected with a tinca.
Within seconds though, it had gone its own way.
I find though that when you haven’t even had an indication that a fish has taken the bait then it probably hasn’t.
I’ve mentioned a few times in recent weeks why I think you get more hook pulls from tench and this is why, as the fish was no doubt foul-hooked.
