Off to Scotland, first though some tench fishing — The journey on the Tottenham Hotspur team bus — Behind the media scenes as The New Saints visit New Douglas Park

I baited the swim on arrival with brown crumb and mixed maggots, flicked out four white maggots on a size 10 hook, tightened to the light lead and settled back.

The tench are very active at this time of the year and although it might take them some time before they’re on the bait, once they do arrive then a ball of crumb and maggots on a regular basis is enough to keep them there.

Of course, just because you have feeding tench in front of you it doesn’t mean to say you’re guaranteed a fish within seconds of every cast.

I did hook – and land – three tincas so was certainly a happy camper, as I was there for just a couple of hours, with a good hour before the fish moved in.
