June 1

Male house sparrow on the feeding station.

June 2

Three stock doves in the garden first thing, two adults and one juvenile.

June 3

Male and female house sparrow on the feeding station.

In our previous home they were the commonest birds in the garden, here they’re just occasional visitors.

June 4

Common frogs showing in both garden ponds and there are also two in the water tub.

From their size, all have come from since we moved in, which is great to see.

June 5

A family of four magpies are visiting the feeding station regularly throughout the day and have been for a week or so.

The two juveniles are well-developed.

June 7

First kestrel of the year, in flight low and over neighbouring residences, from the lane to the golf course.

June 10

Not many swifts around this year, one bird moving across the valley from west to east.

June 12

Two Canada geese calling in flight over the garden.

Three mistle thrushes in flight late early evening, heading towards the bottom of the valley.

June 16

Two carrion crows perched on the bungalow below ours, eyeing up the feeding station but they didn’t get any further.

Two juvenile goldfinches in the garden.

June 18

Sleeping with the windows open, due to the weather, heard both muntjac and roe deer first thing this morning in the valley.

June 23

Single swift visible from the garden early morning.

Not many at all this year.

June 24

Juvenile coal tit eating in the seed dish.

Large red damselfly around the main pond, landed on my arm several times while I cleaned the surface of the water.

June 25

Pair of great spotted woodpeckers together on the feeding station.

Although we get both male and female birds, it’s the first time that we’ve had two at the same time.

June 26

Although I’ve seen them from the garden, the first jackdaw of the year actually in it, was feeding with other birds on the ground.

June 28

A juvenile great spotted woodpecker on the station, feeding on sunflower hearts.

It took a few attempts to land before it got it right.

June 30

Eight magpies in the garden this morning.
