The one that got away — Beginning another season working in football — Killing two birds with one stone and fishing after work — Return Of The Seven 1966

It was a glorious day, what people of my age call summer.

No fear or panic, just a nice summer’s day.

From an angling perspective it wasn’t ideal, especially as I only had a couple of hours maximum.

I fished just beyond the drop-off that you can quite clearly see in the extremely clear water, quiver-tipping two red maggots on a size 14 hook.

I didn’t even get a bite, never mind a fish on the bank.
