Garden nature diary for March 2023

My wife captured the sparrowhawk, which is a regular visitor to our garden. Look at the floating feather as it plucks its kill.

March 2

Sparrowhawk (m) in low flight over the bungalow at first light, heading towards the western ridge.

Daily visitors for a long time now, great to see a pair of stock doves feeding below the seed feeders.

A pair of greenfinches feeding on sunflower hearts at early dusk.

March 5

In the garden a pair of stock doves. On the feeding station a great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch and a pair of greenfinches.

Great to see single long-tailed tit sightings, a good indication there’ll be a breeding pair in the immediate area.
