The film Snowball from 1960 caught my eye as it featured a very young Dennis Waterman
He plays a difficult child (Mickey Donovan) and when he arrives home late from school, his parents want an explanation as he walked four miles instead of catching the bus.
In order to cover for himself, he says the bus conductor (played by Kenneth Griffith) refused him access as he had forgotten his season ticket.
This leads to a hate campaign against the conductor for making a child walk home alone.
Mickey Donovan continues with his lie and in the end it leads to the conductor losing his life, when he’s hit by a train.
