A 1948 American black and white film, The Black Arrow is based on a Robert Louis Stevenson 1888 novel of the same name.
It is set in the aftermath of the Wars Of The Roses, when a returning York knight is told that his father was killed by a neighbouring Lancastrian.
He was actually killed by his evil uncle and he’s warned in a series of messages, attached to black arrows.
It has a definite Robin Hood feel to it.
Eventually, he gets to the truth, defeats his Sheriff of Nottingham and ends up with his Maid Marian.
Stars Louis Hayward, Janet Blair, George Macready, Edgar Buchanan and Rhys Williams.
I watched this on Film 4.
