Carp Fishing In The Midlands – Live Blogging Through The Night

8.00 p.m. Welcome to another overnighter. The rods are out and the waiting game begins.

It’s very windy, and I hope I’m not doing a Mary Poppins any time soon, as the forecast is that it gets even wilder during the night.

8.30 p.m. Now that furlough has come to an end, I won’t have the luxury of being able to go night fishing when I want, or indeed, angling in general.

However, I’ll still be as focused as I have been over the last few months. I’ll just need to make the most of every opportunity that presents itself, and work around things, that’s all.

That’s why I’m doing an overnighter today, as I’ll be working from home tomorrow. It’s about flexibility and adaption, just as a successful life itself is.

9.30 p.m. The wind is quite fierce at times, and as the powerful gusts come in, the shelter I’m under threatens to take off into the night sky.

Now that the water birds have retired for the evening, I’ve put the final batch of boilies out. It really is watch and wait time now.

1.00 a.m. It’s been very quiet so far, nothing to report.

4.00 a.m. A couple of months ago we would have been well into daylight now. Today, it’s still dark with no sign of the sun.

No sign of any fish either, although I have caught previously quite late in the sessions.

4.45 a.m. Into the last couple of hours of the session. The wind has been going all night.

I’ve had the occasional bleep on a bite alarm but nothing to suggest even a fish was responsible.

6.45 a.m. After catching some nice carp in this area in recent sessions, this one ended with a blank.

It is very shallow and I knew it would be limited in terms of potential. Unfortunately, I couldn’t fish-spot when I arrived, due to the wind, but in the brief time it was still this morning, I saw nothing.

A chat with another carp angler further along, who also blanked, confirmed what I suspected, that there were no fish in the area.

Still, there’s no such thing as a wasted fishing session. As long as your bait’s in the water you’ve got a chance. Plus, it’s always good to be in the great outdoors.
