🐦‍⬛ Garden nature diary: October 2024

October 1

Male sparrowhawk flashed through the garden. He’s been hanging around for a while, due to the large numbers of other birds that we attract daily.

They are difficult to count, due to their flightiness, but managed to get 16 house sparrows in the back garden.

October 5

Eight magpies flew from a tree in the primary school. A sign that winter is on its way, as they begin to flock together.

October 6

Long-tailed tit on the feeding station.

October 8

Coal tit on the feeding station. Haven’t seen one for a while.

October 9

A very switched-on juvenile stock dove beneath the feeding station. Whenever a bird landed on a feeder, he looked up and moved directly below to wait for falling seeds.

Security light outside the front went on and I opened the door quickly as a fox made its way along the road.

October 10
