🎣 Four species of fish on the bank and the one that got away 🎶 Temptin’ Temptations
🎣 Although I do set the clock on my iPhone, invariably I am awake just ahead of the alarm bursting into song.
Fishing a small pool, I went for the familiar approach of prawn over red maggots, prawns and brown crumb in six-feet of water and 2-3 lengths from the bank.
I caught a small perch early on and then, every time I threw bait out, a pike smashed into the fish that moved in.
I prefer a settled swim with lots of smaller fish present, as I’m a great believer that a crowd attracts a crowd.
Although the presence of the predator had an effect, it didn’t totally kill things, as I caught bream, perch, roach and tench.
I also lost a very good fish as well, that headed for overhanging branches.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Nature notes: Grey wagtails are resident, so invariably several sightings. Kingfisher perched on far bank overhanging branches. Song thrush in flight across the pool.
🎶 Changing the Spotify album that I listen to in the car, I’m staying with The Temptations and going back to 1965.
Temptin’ Temptations was their third album and, as it was their early music that got me into the group when I was young, it’s like listening to a greatest hits album.
In fact, many of the tracks were on the Anthology album that I bought – and loved – as a youngster.
Therefore, if I was pushed to go for a favourite, it’s hard.
Since I lost My Baby, which was written by Smokey Robinson and Warren Moore, is the one though. What a song that is. Haunting, reflective and maybe one that many people can relate to when it comes to a relationship ending.
