🎣 Quantity over quality on a pool session  📻 Talking angling on the radio  💪 Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work I go

Although I do set the alarm on my iPhone, I very rarely need it. It’s not as if I’m a light sleeper either, but I do find myself waking naturally, a few minutes before the appointed time.

That was the case this morning as well, as I woke, put my dog in the garden, made a flask of tea, loaded the car and was on my way.

More small pool fishing, I fished a couple of rod-lengths from the bank in five-feet of water, presenting a single maggot over loose-fed red and whites.

I lost a decent (for the venue) perch but what I lacked in quality, I more than made up for with quantity.

Lots of action from small roach.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.

Nature notes: Grey wagtail in flight across the pool. Song thrush singing in a regular perching spot. Ring-necked parakeet in silent overhead flight.

Once home after fishing, I talked about it on the radio. Bayside Radio, to be precise.

Based in Colwyn Bay, I have a Thursday afternoon slot on Jeff Pearson’s show.

It lasts for thirty-minutes, although we tend to go over and never under.

I enjoy talking about angling anyway but it’s a great opportunity to take our wonderful hobby out into the wider world.

There are a couple of short clips from today’s recording in the accompanying video.

It’s very early days yet, but I’ve started doing a few hours a week on the work front.

This was all part of my intention anyway, as although I retired in December, I don’t have a pension yet.

I always knew that any opportunity would have to come looking for me, rather than the other way round.

I’m too old to apply for anything. I did that when I was 60 and I didn’t even get an interview.

Isn’t it great though when things come together.

I’ll perhaps share in the future what I’m doing, but for now it’s hours to suit me, far more per hour than I was earning previously, I don’t have to travel far and I’m feeling very much appreciated.

Four great boxes to tick there.

I’m also enjoying it and getting to meet some lovely people. Make that six boxes.

Plus, it’s all legal and above board. Seven?
