🎣 Dab fishing holiday, the last angling trip of January and thankful for small mercies
I’ve booked a dab fishing holiday, my wife is excited and said she can’t wait.
I just haven’t told her about the dabs yet.
Anyway, that’s for then, but in the meantime there’s a lot more angling on the way, including today’s session on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal.
I fished the boat channel, over brown crumb and loose maggots, with two on the hook.
I lost a couple of fish – one felt decent and the other was a small perch – before I finally got a tiny perch on the bank.
Proving to be the only one of the session, it was another one of those on-the-right-side-of-the-line trips.
Thankful for small mercies. Indeed.
It was very slow but, then again, it is January.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 12 hook.
Nature notes: Two goosanders flew overhead at dusk.
How’s your angling month been?
I’ve done 33 sessions, mostly for roach, and in the process caught lots of my target species, one bream, one perch and one rudd/roach hybrid.
I’ve had plenty of decent enough roach, when you consider the small pools and ponds that I’ve been fishing, so overall I’ve been happy, especially as it’s January.
