August 1: Stock dove (Single bird on the lawn. Several sightings during the day.)
August 2: House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder, swishing from side to side, with lots falling to the ground for the birds down there.) Stock dove (Single bird on the lawn.)
August 3: Stock dove (Single bird on the lawn. Two visits.) Greenfinch (Three juveniles on the feeding station.) Gulls (My wife sent me images of hundreds of gulls (lesser black-backed or herring, maybe both) in slow, soaring flight over the valley. Even a neighbour came out and called me across the fence, asking what was happening. I was out at the time though.)
August 4: Stock dove (Several visits on the lawn of a single bird, pair and three.)
August 5: Stock dove (Several visits on the lawn of a single bird and a pair.) Greenfinch (Numerous visits to the sunflower hearts feeder of adults and juveniles throughout the day.)
August 6: Stock dove (Single bird first thing in the morning, a regular visitor.)
August 7: House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder.) Stock dove (Evening visit of a single bird.)
August 8: House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder.) Stock dove (Single bird on the lawn.)
August 9: House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder.) Greenfinch (Five juveniles vying for four feeding spots on the sunflower hearts feeder.)
August 10: House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder.) Nuthatch (On the feeding station, the first one in a while.) Stock dove (Pair of birds on the lawn.)
August 11: Stock dove (Bird on the lawn, one that always arrives and leaves with a wood pigeon. Pair of birds later.)
August 12: Grey heron (Bird in flight over the land.) Nuthatch (On the feeding station.) Ring-necked parakeet (Two calling birds flew overhead, heading towards central valley woodland in the evening.)
August 13: House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder.) Stock dove (Single bird on the lawn.)
August 15: Nuthatch (Two adults on the feeding station.)
August 16: House sparrow (Juvenile on the patio.)
August 17: Stock dove (Adult and juvenile, separately, in the garden.) Ring-necked parakeet (Two calling birds late evening, heading towards central valley woodland.)
August 19: Greenfinch (Five juveniles on the feeding station, jostling for the four feeding points on the sunflower hearts feeder.)
August 20: Greenfinch (The five juveniles on the feeding station again.) Sparrowhawk (Female flew at two songbirds but departed the garden without one.)
August 23: Sparrowhawk (Female in high, lazy flight over the lane.) House sparrow (Female on the seed feeder.)
August 24: Sparrowhawk (Male landed on the bird bath by the feeding station,)
August 25: Common frog (In the corner water feature on the patio.)
August 26: Common frog (Still in the corner water feature on the patio.)
August 27: Common frog (Still in the corner water feature on the patio.) Greenfinch (Five juveniles on and beneath the feeding station.) Smooth newt (Following heavy rain, a newt on the kitchen doorstep.)
August 29: Greenfinch (Four juveniles on the feeding station.) Mallard (Four birds in flight high over the valley.) Hedgehog (On the front drive and just over next door’s. Later one seen on the patio.)
