🎣 Perch fishing on the Staffs & Worcs Canal with worm
I’ve fished predominantly with maggots over the winter months so far but, now that we’ve turned the weather corner, it’s time to broaden the bait horizon. As far as perch are concerned, that means prawns and worms.
As far as the latter are concerned, while turning soil in borders yesterday at home, I gathered a few in advance of this morning’s angling session. On the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal at first light, I fished worm over maggots.
My tackle approach was the same as recent outings on the canal – I’ve now done six Staffs & Worcs sessions on the bounce – which means I kept the Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook. That’s as small as I’ll go with worm.
The line was Maxima Chameleon 4lb and the float a 0.8g Drennan crystal waggler. The rod was a Greys Prodigy TX and the reel a Shimano 3500. I fished for a couple of hours or so and banked three perch and a bream.
