An early morning start on a woodland pond
With another wet and windy day ahead, I was on a small woodland pond at first light.
I’m enjoying these venues very much indeed and although you might not catch any monster fish, nevertheless if you take everything into account and you’re realistic, then you can have some good sessions.
It was shallow water that I fished, less than two feet deep.
There are plenty of fish in there though and I caught lots in the hour I spent at the water’s edge.
They were predominantly small roach, with the biggest one in the video above.
I also had bigger roach/rudd hybrid but as I was ready to film that, it slipped out of my hand and returned itself to the water.
My approach was really simple, a small waggler off the end of the rod tip presented two white maggots on a size 14 hook.
Loose maggots were trickled in and with the fish being very active, I caught more on the drop than on the bottom.
Are you a small pond angler?
If so, you’ll know the pleasure that these venues bring, but if not why don’t you give them a go?
You may be pleasantly surprised at what’s in some of these places.
