Swifts still around
I took my binoculars to Highgate Common and while I was there I saw two swifts feeding over woodland.
I haven’t seen one for a few visits on my tench lake, where they are present in large numbers during the height of summer.
Not only the lack of swifts but the natural world itself is showing obvious signs of autumn.
Leaves are turning colour, berries are out in force and many wildflowers have now passed their period of bloom.
