Half a dozen tench before breakfast

After two days without fishing, it was nice to get back on the bank.

For a couple of months, I’ve had my alarm set for the same time each morning that I’ve been pursuing tench.

I’ve been aware of the gradual shortening of the days but this time it was very noticeable.

Looking out of the kitchen window as I made my flask, although not strictly dark, nevertheless it was a stark reminder that summer is slipping away.

I’ve still got a few tench sessions left though before we finally say farewell to August and I got off to a great start when the bait was taken on the drop.

It was caught immediately the bait hit the water, which when you consider I was fishing with a 3/8 ounce lead, that’s a pretty quick reaction from a tench.

I went on to net five other fish (including another on the drop) in the couple of hours or so I was there and they can be viewed, along with the rig and tackle used, in the accompanying video below.
