As always, on arrival at the lake the first thing I did was to bait the swim.
It was the same as previous visits, brown crumb and mixed maggots about three rod lengths from the bank.
Then I cast out, poured my first drink of the tea, settled back and waited.
Although I didn’t see it, I heard a curlew calling twice in flight.
I did pull out of a fish early in the session that initially felt like a very small tench or even a big roach.
