Uncle Phil’s parents arrive in California from North Carolina to stay for a few days, as he is due to win a community award.
He tries to hide his past, saying he’s from Baltimore and by-passing the poor years down south.
In the end, in his acceptance speech, he acknowledges his past and gives credit to his mom and dad who are present.
They may have been poor but they showed him love.
