I went for a couple of white maggots on a size 14 hook and loose fed mixed maggots by hand as the float was only one rod-length from the bank in three-feet of water.
While I fished, I watched a treecreeper on the common alder next to me, working its way up the trunk.
It’s not unusual to find mallards nesting off the ground but it was interesting to see a pair flying around the wood opposite, especially so as they were landing on trees sixty-feet high inspecting holes for potential breeding sites.
