Murder By Proxy, a crime thriller from the fifties

A British black and white Hammer Films movie filmed in Berkshire, Murder By Proxy was released in March, 1954, in the USA and in the UK a year later.

A down and out – and very drunk – Casey Morrow (played by Dane Clark) is approached in a club by Phyllis Brunner (played by Belinda Lee) who asks him to marry her.

Waking the next day in a strange place, he can’t remember what happened but there is £500 in his pocket.

He then becomes the suspect in a murder case and that is the gist of the movie.

It’s a decent enough film and the twist at the end is that it’s Phyllis Brunner’s mother behind the murders – as they become plural.
