I was thinking, while I’m still at The New Saints I might as well take advantage of the geographical location and fish the upper Severn, so I did

I fished with a quiver tip rod and a Shimano 2500 reel, loaded with 4lb Maxima Chameleon.

A 3/8 ounce lead held bottom easily and a small shot, bead and size 14 hook completed the rig.

I fished 1/4 of the way out on a bend and baited up with brown crumb and maggots, with two maggots on the hook.

With over two hours to go before dark, especially with it being a very pleasant day, I was looking forward to the session very much indeed.

I had a couple of taps on the rod early on, so that was encouraging.
