When I get up in the morning, one of the first things I do is top up the bird feeding station in the garden.
That’s key to both attracting and keeping birds, by making sure there’s always food (and water) available.
Both my wife and I get a lot of pleasure from watching the birds in the garden and having patio doors helps, as the view is excellent.
The feeding station is far enough from our home so that the birds feel comfortable but close enough for us to watch with the naked eye, although I do spend a lot of time with my binoculars looking out.
This morning I spotted a grey bird with a black head and immediately shouted to my wife to get her camera, as we had a male blackcap in the garden.
