Watched the England game, off to bed with the Famous Five and went fishing on a woodland pool

After the game – during which I nodded off, although it was because I was tired and not bored – I went to bed proper.

I invariably read before I finally doze off and that means the last words that enter my mind before I depart the land of the living are from the Famous Five novels.

I first encountered the Enid Blyton series way back in the sixties, when I learnt to read myself.

Since then, I’ve continued to enjoy the adventures of the five.

They’re innocent stories and, in my case, they take me back to my childhood.

I’m not a fan of the modern world and the older I get I do find myself looking back more and more.
