I did manage to overcome the obstacles though and it was great to see the float sail away as fish picked up the double maggot.
I went for a size 14 hook, as it’s not that crucial to go too fine when the fish aren’t used to being caught.
I threw loose maggots into the water and fished on the deck about one rod length out from the bank.
I took an unhooking mat to sit on, as there’s no way you could get a chair in there with all the gear.
In fact, I had everything I needed in a shoulder bag.
