Sunday is always tight when it comes to fishing time and today I was originally going on a brook after sticklebacks.
However, as I was getting changed at home, I thought I’d try some lure angling for perch instead.
We’re in a cold spell and I’ve found, on the waters that I fish, my favourite species has been lying low of late.
No doubt, I would have caught on the brook, but this is where you ask yourself a question as an angler.
Am I motivated more by avoiding a blank as opposed to doing what I want?
Blanks don’t bother me. Naturally, I don’t want too many, but the occasional one, especially when it’s a challenge, is no problem.
I only had a short session today and I didn’t even have a nibble.
Having said that, the whole pool was dead from a piscatorial point of view.
Not even the roach were topping.
Still, I enjoy the great outdoors, and on all the years I’ve fished I’ve never had a session yet that I haven’t enjoyed.
Plus, there’s always tomorrow.
And yes, I was wearing shorts.
The tackle I fished with was as follows: Fox Rage Ultron drop shot rod, Fox Rage Ultron 2500 reel, 10lb Sunline braid on reel.
Drennan Double Strength 10lb (1.5 metres) joined to the braid with a small swivel.
Micro jig head 0.7g size 6 hook. Glider 2 inch rubber fish. All knots (3) blood knots.
