This morning at church was a hymn request service, which was exactly that
We sang hymns that people requested.
In the sermon I took three well-known hymn writers and looked at their life.
For various reasons all of them – John Newton, William Cowper and Joseph Scriven – had very difficult times.
The common denominator, though, was that they turned tragedy to triumph.
All three wrote hymns – Amazing Grace, There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood and What A Friend We Have In Jesus – that inspire us today.
We all experience personal tragedy at some time in our life.
Do we allow it to break us or make us?
