Groundhopping, As Cadbury Athletic Boost Their Promotion Hopes With A Win At Lane Head FC

With Covid affecting many areas of our lives, my groundhopping has pretty much been on the back burner for a couple of seasons.

Leagues suspended, cancelled or restricted has meant that I’ve been pretty much focused on my working games with The New Saints FC.

From this year though, I’ve been determined to get back on track, and that was the case with my first game of 2022.

As a groundhopper I like to visit new places, although my original plan to travel to OJM Black Country didn’t work out, as the game was cancelled, or an invitation from Darlaston 1874 either, as I’ve been there before.

However, a tweet from Matthew Hearsay meant that I went to Lane Head FC instead.

Matthew used to play for Newtown AFC, in what was then the Welsh Premier League, and now turns out for the Midland Football League Division Two side.

With it being a Bank Holiday, the traffic was reasonably light as I travelled into the Black Country in general, and Walsall / Bloxwich in particular.

The game ended 2-1 to the visitors, who lead the way at the top of the table and remain unbeaten.

There are lots of Midland Football League grounds that I haven’t been to, so plenty there to keep me occupied over the next few months – and beyond.

I recorded a short video from my visit to Lane Head that you can watch above.

In addition, you can access my groundhopping pages here.

By the way, it was pun intended in the title…
