Fishing On The Way To Work – Especially With Short Sessions At This Time Of The Year, It’s Important To Target The Right Species

I beat the alarm clock by half an hour this morning, which enabled me to add an extra thirty minutes to the session I had planned on the way to work.

As a member of a club that has an extended stretch of the Montgomery Canal, within a couple of minutes of pulling off the main road, courtesy of the rod already being made up, I’m fishing.

If you’re doing short sessions at this time of the year then it’s important to target the right species.

That’s where roach come into their own. They’re widespread and very obliging when the water temperature is low.

I fished with a Greys G Lite spinning rod (4-8lb) and a Shimano DL2500FA reel.

Maxima Chameleon 4lb reel line went straight through and the hook length was created by a 5mm bead and a size 6 shot.

The lead was a 1/4 ounce bomb.

Single maggot was fished on a Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
