I walked several hundred yards and then returned to the spot I chose.
It was pretty uniform along the length, with lots of trees and bushes on the far bank, so nothing that stood out.
What I decided on was where the canal was narrower before it then opened up slightly.
The swim had less shallower margins, with the deeper water (boat channel) just off the rod tip.
You can see the tackle approach in the video and on arrival, after casting out a few times with a plummet, I threw out four large balls of brown crumb and mixed maggots.
