The eighth in the Turn Of Fate short television movies, On Edge (bottom left image) is from 1957.
Robert Ryan (Professor Trilbridge) is the star and he is randomly spotted by two detectives for minor offences connected to gambling from a number of years previously.
They follow him to his home and detain him.
In the meantime though, they meet his wife and find out that he has totally turned his life around.
He’s now a professor at university.
The detectives are from different cities, where he had been doing his dodgy stuff.
Which one makes the arrest though?
They roll a coin but it sticks ‘on edge’ in a groove on the floor.
At this point, having softened and thinking that the crimes weren’t serious anyway, they decide to forget they ever saw him.
As they’re leaving the home, his young daughter returns from school and runs into his arms.
That shows them that, in their minds at least, they did the right thing.
