Once In A New Moon is a British black and white film from 1935.
When a star passes close to the earth, the resultant storm dislodges the village of Shrimpton-on-the-Sea and it ends up orbiting the earth.
The inhabitants look to establish a government, but this quickly becomes an entrenched upper class versus lower class affair, and the village is on the verge of civil war.
There’s no reason why they should fight, it’s simply a struggle for power.
It may be almost 90 years ago but nothing has changed because fallen human nature is still the same.
Then there’s another storm and the village returns to earth, albeit in a different location, where a boat arrives and they get the chance to return to England.
