It wasn’t roadworks, as nothing was moving at all, and there were no cars coming the other way either.
I did what numerous other drivers were doing and turned round and went back.
Making my way through some very narrow lanes and hoping I wouldn’t meet someone coming the other way, via a number of tiny villages I eventually reached familiar territory.
