Although there was no ice on the pool I fished – and I wasn’t expecting it either – nevertheless, the sharp overnight drop in temperature naturally had a bearing on the fish.
I stuck with my usual perch approach from a tackle perspective but realistically I expected roach.
That proved to be the case as well. Lots of the latter, none of the former.
I fished in three feet of water, and with no natural features beneath the surface, I cast towards overhanging branches from a common alder tree.
