A 5lb Perch? Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, More Like – A Short Lure Session On The Canal

Although I fish as much as I can, it’s always within the framework of balance.

As I so often say, it’s about passion and not obsession.

Today’s early morning trip to a local section of canal was intended to be for just an hour.

I did fish beyond that though, as I willed a take on a number of last casts.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be and I registered my first blank of the year, hence the song title in the heading.

The other reference was to a dream that I had last night and that’s in the accompanying video.

I still enjoyed today’s trip, albeit with no fish on the bank.

It was very quiet though, I didn’t even see any surface movement from roach or other smaller fish, and certainly no fry clearing the water as the predators fed.

Back home, I’m going for a walk around local woodland with my wife and Dilwyn, our dog.

Then it’s a groundhopping journey to see Lane Head FC take on Cadbury Athletic in the Midland Football league.

The tackle I fished with was as follows: Fox Rage Ultron drop shot rod, Fox Rage Ultron 2500 reel, 10lb Sunline braid on reel.

Drennan Double Strength 10lb (1.5 metres) joined to the braid with a small swivel.

Micro jig head 1g size 6 hook. Glider 2 inch rubber fish. All knots (3) blood knots.
