Hedgehog Watching And Another New Bird And Butterfly Species

The last garden nature blog entry (see menu at the top of the page) featured the discovery of hedgehog droppings in the garden.

Since then, my wife and I have been taking advantage of the pleasant evenings by sitting on the patio, watching and waiting.

We didn’t have long to wait. The rustling of the leaves told us one was on its way. Then we heard it eating a snail, crunching the shell in the process.

The shell remains, as well as the hedgehog itself can be viewed via the short video.

I saw my fifth butterfly in the garden – a speckled wood – and the latest bird sighting is a green woodpecker.

I often hear them but this is the first one I’ve seen this year. It was quite vocal one morning so I just looked out of the bedroom window until I saw it in flight.
