Travelling Light, The Beauty Of Lure Fishing

I felt tired last night, so much that I fell asleep during the Wales v Czech Republic game on television.

It was a pleasant surprise, when I woke, to find out that Wales had won. When I eventually went to bed, I was in the land of nod within seconds of my head hitting the pillow,

Although I wasn’t planning on going fishing this morning, as I was back in the land of the living at 6.30 a.m. I put the lure gear in the car and went for a canal session.

I’m working from home today, so I had that flexibility. it was just a short trip and I fished for an hour.

Unfortunately, I had no action, not even a pluck or a snatch. That’s the thing with lure fishing though, it’s very focused in terms of what you can catch.

It’s a great way of fishing when time is tight though. As you can see from the lead image, it also has the benefit of travelling light.

Even though I didn’t catch, it was great to be in the open air, so it was anything but a wasted trip.

Green alkanets were in bloom in the hedgerow and I watched a chiffchaff building a nest on the far bank of the canal.

The tackle I fished with was as follows: Fox Rage Ultron drop shot rod, Fox Rage Ultron 2500 reel, 10lb Sunline braid on reel.

Fox Rage Illusion fluorocarbon 10lb 3oz (2 metres) joined to the braid with a small swivel.

Fox Rage micro jig head 1g size 4 hook. Berkley powerbait 2 inch rubber minnow. All knots (3) blood knots.
